Re-connect with nature

We know you may not wish to confine your Retreat indoors.  Sedbergh’s untamed natural beauty will be sure to appeal and inspire. Forge some unforgettable memories amidst the unpredictability and freedom of the great outdoors. There are local waterfalls, clear aqua pools for dipping and miles of walking all in or around Sedbergh.

Cautley Spout is  England’s highest waterfall above ground. The broken cascade of falls tumbles a total of 650 feet down a cliff face at the head of a wild and bleak glacial valley that comes down from a high plateau called The Calf.

There are miles of open fells (Howgills) for you to walk or why not enjoy a leisurely stroll into the town? Sedbergh is England’s official Book Town so any opportunity to immerse yourself in its bookish cultures shouldn’t be missed. From shops to cafes and pubs, businesses sell and lend books across the town centre – even the bus shelter doubles up as Sedbergh Book Shelter where you can take and donate books.  There’s also Farfield Mill across the Road from Howgills House which offers an unmissable opportunity to soak up the arts and crafts creations of some of the most talented Artists and Designers in Cumbria.  All this can be finished off with a wonderful brew and chunk of cake in the Farfield Mill Cafe.

“Howgills House was ideal for my retreat – beautiful location, close to nature, and cosy yet spacious for our group. It was the perfect place to really unwind.

In terms of facilities, the owners have thought of everything you might need for catering, group work and breakaways, as well as relaxation (amazing yoga space!) and entertainment.
Amy and the team made everything so easy and it was an absolute pleasure working with them. I’ll definitely be booking future retreats here.”

” Firstly, we just wanted to say thank you so much for our stay this week, it was just perfect and it’s meant that we’ve been able to share what we’ve been up to on our socials and with our members.  They are so excited about coming!

The accommodation and location are exactly what we were hoping it would be for our retreat events and we’re so looking forward to returning in October with our first group of women.  We honestly didn’t want to leave yesterday!”
